Anti-Gun Bills Head to Senate Committee in New York! Friday, April 25, 2008
Make Your Voice Heard Today! The State Senate came back to work on Monday after having a week off for a scheduled Spring Break. Several anti-gun bills that have already passed the State Assembly and are pending in the State Senate Codes Committee. Assembly Bill 6525A, sponsored by State Assemblywoman Amy Paulin (D-88), would create new sales and reporting requirements for licensed firearms dealers and require dealers to carry a minimum of $1,000,000 of liability insurance. AB6525A passed by a vote of 85 to 53. Assembly Bill 9819A, authored by State Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel (D-16), would ban the sale of semi-automatic handguns not equipped with so-called "microstamping" technology. The bill requires all semiautomatic pistols sold in the state to microstamp an array of characters that identify the make, model, and serial number of the pistol on the firing pin, which would copy the characters onto the cartridge case upon firing. AB9819A passed by a vote of 90 to 43. Assembly Bill 7331, sponsored by State Assemblyman Matthew Titone (D-61), would expand the ban on semi-automatic assault weapons, as well as require the ballistic fingerprinting(registration) of all semi-automatic assault weapons owned prior to a specified date. AB7331 passed by a vote of 85 to 46. Assembly Bill 3451, introduced by State Assemblyman David Koon (D-135), would expand New Yorks failed ballistic imaging program. AB3451 passed by a vote of 79 to 49. Assembly Bill 2772, authored by State Assemblywoman Patricia Eddington (D-3), would ban the sale, use or possession of any rifle with a bore diameter .50 caliber or larger. This bill would require gun owners in possession of these firearms to surrender them to law enforcement. Assembly Bill 829, sponsored by State Assemblyman Steve Englebright (D-4), would prohibit the sale of any handgun that doesnt contain a childproofing device or mechanism incorporated into the design of the handgun. AB829 passed by a vote of 86 to 46. Assembly Bill 76, sponsored by State Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg (D-20), would require the mandatory storage of all firearms. AB76 passed by a vote of 95 to 35. Assembly Bill 3447, introduced by State Assemblyman David Koon (D-135), would ban the sale or possession of frangible ammunition. AB3447 passed by a vote of 85 to 40. It is critical that all of these measures are voted down in order to protect the Second Amendment rights of all gun-owners in New York State. Please contact your State Senator today through the Senate switchboard at (518) 455-2800 and respectfully urge him or her to vote "NO" on these NRA-opposed measures. "Surrender them to Law Enforcement" What a buch of crap. Hopefully, someone will come out with .49 caliber rifles, if this idiotic bill passes! |

In which case, they would simply amend the law next session. As written, any "rifle" of 50 cal or greater would probably also include black powder weapons and shotguns, since you can fire a slug that is well over 50 cal from them. |
Re: Wow, Y'all are screwed in New York
you should probably change the title word " Y'all" to "Yous" when referring to us NY'ers
just my opinion since i cant remember ever saying the word Y'all |

Sorry folks, no more shotguns for youse. Yep. First round just fired in the Second AR. The one where 'da pipple' respond will be the SECOND 'Shot heard round the world' type of thing. ASSUMING (yeah, yeah, I KNOW) that anyone actually does anything. Probably not. Just 'turn em in' just like they did in Australia and England. |

Re: Wow, Y'all are screwed in New York
OK I understand the Feds Making laws that infringe on a persons right to own, without a real fight. But how in the world are states getting away with it, Seems to me they dont have the power or authority.

The States and the Federal gubbermint are ONE ENTITY..... they only play that "soverignity card" every so often on minor stuff of small consequence but on big issues THEY MOVE IN LOCK STEP When they are ready to move against the people THE MEANS, RESOURSES, MAN POWER AND LOGISTICAL SUPPORT WILL FALL OUT THE SKY IF IT HAS TO. That is why I scoff at ANY type of legislation that includes the willful surrender of arms all you do is make the "final push" that much easier for them. When they are ready they will do what they want with absolute impunity......AND SO WILL I winner take all. I lived the greater portion of my life a sleepwalking zombie sheep. ..... I DAM SURE WONT DIE ONE.... T |

This has me heated .........But I have tons of options before It got down to that. If it got THAT serious I would switch resideny in heart beat.I go out of my way to keep a low profile. I say "excuse me" where ever I go and I still respond "sir" whenever I speakor have dealings with the goons(permits). I will save my "GIM Trump Card" for a backed up against the wall type deal. I have lots of goodwill on this forum and I covet that far more than my stash of silver. T |

Re: Wow, Y'all are screwed in New York
Yeah this bill has been rearing it's ugly head for a while now- I really hope it keeps getting delayed. That measure on 50 cal rifles is the reason why I dont own one today- no sense in buying one just to get it confiscated with a fraction of its value returned to me in compensation.
50 cal rifles is a sensitive issue because it would be one of our best defenses against a government becoming more and more authoritative and willing to use it's military hardware on the people. 50 caliber rifles would provide defense against a lot of the light armored hardware they might utilize against a mal-equipped populace like us which would be immune to conventional small arms |
Re: Wow, Y'all are screwed in New York
Why officer, I had no idea that my SMOOTHBORE 75 cal musket is considered a RIFLE.
I think that I will keep my weapon on that...technicality. |
Re: Wow, Y'all are screwed in New York
Grew up in a "blackboard jungle" in the 50s, made my first "zip" gun covertly in metal shop in 8th grade. Think I couldn't do a better bigger scale job now? Think again. Think I couldn't produce my own potassium nitrate? Think again. Think I couldn't produce nitric acid and "gun cotton"? Think again.

Re: Wow, Y'all are screwed in New York
I still don't get the whole microstamping thing. I mean, I understand the concept and the motive(s) behind it. I don't agree with them, but I understand them. What I don't understand is how it can work on a physical level. The way I understand it, the firing pin acts as a sort of die with all of the info on it in micro size, right? So, when the pin hits the primer, it stamps it, correct? Now, that's metal on metal. I work in a sheet metal shop. I see this sort of thing all the time. Over time, and probably not much, the info on the head of that firing pin is going to wear down. It's the same basic concept the US Mint uses for stamping their coins. The dies become worn and constantly have to be changed. They haven't even perfected this technology yet, and they already want to make it into law. They call it "so called" microstamping. It doesn't even have an official name yet! :banghead:
Not only that, but how hard do you think it will be for a criminal of even moderate intelligence to file the info off of the firing pin and still have a fully functional gun? Hell, even the dumb ones do that with regular serial numbers now. :confused_ma: |

I will buy your shotguns and 50 cal guns now. I will give you 10 cents on the dollar NOW for 50 cal rifles. Maybe a little more. When its the law down there I will pay 5 cents or less. PM me. |
Re: Wow, Y'all are screwed in New York
newbie here.... The way I see it... these laws are always passed based on fear. I live in maryland and the state tried to pass legislation registering all ammo, that is, ammo would be numbered, etc... It didn't pass but I'm sure it will in upcoming years, it's just a matter of time. Baltimore is the 2nd deadliest city, per capita, in the country (behind Detroit). Do these politicians think that criminals will follow the law? Common sense has been turned upside down as a result of liberal doctrine. IMO, "gun free zones", like schools, colleges, etc... are becoming unsafe. Imagine if someone else was carrying in Virginia Tech during the massacre last year. Lives might have been saved. With maryland becoming one big "gun free zone", as it is almost impossible to get a permit to carry here, it is becoming unsafe to live here, especially near the metropolitan areas (Baltimore/DC). I'm trying to move to West Virginia, as long as I can find work.
Here is another tidbit... The governor of maryland, Martin O'Malley, recieved a death threat from a carpenter last month. The citizen was upset about the government's handling of illegal aliens taking his job. He was just sentenced to 15 YEARS!!!!! Meanwhile, persons charged with murder in Baltimore City generally serve 5. Something to think about. shock |
Re: Wow, Y'all are screwed in New York
From what I can gather TPTB don't want any resistance when TSHTF in New York.
Easy enough to understand, considering what is coming I think that this is quite a tame bill. |
